Our Education Approach

At Spaghetti Bridge, we support young people with a range of needs, who have significant barriers to learning. Whatever their readiness to trust and engage, our curriculum structure allows them to develop a culture of success from the outset.

Our Education Approach

At Spaghetti Bridge, we support young people with a range of needs, who have significant barriers to learning. Whatever their readiness to trust and engage, our curriculum structure allows them to develop a culture of success from the outset.

Outcomes

Spaghetti Bridge supports learners to become themselves and change the world through a curriculum based in meaningful, real-world experiences.

By becoming themselves, we mean that each learner discovers their unique abilities, passions, and aspirations and develops the skills, knowledge, and understanding to achieve their full potential.
Healthy and well means that our young people learn to take care of their mental, physical, and emotional health and acquire the skills that will allow them to thrive.

Changing the world means that Spaghetti Bridge students learn how to make a meaningful difference in their world by contributing to the lives of others and to their community.
Community connection consists of employability, relationships, cultural awareness and engagement, and feeling a sense of belonging and giving back to their community.

On the way to becoming themselves and changing the world, our curriculum supports them to learn to be lifelong learners, connect to their community, and be healthy and well.
Lifelong learning includes being curious and engaged in their world, developing a love of reading and learning, and having the skills to access and utilise information.

Whatever the starting point, our curriculum allows for ambitious aspirations to be reached; there is no glass ceiling at Spaghetti Bridge!

Implementation

The foundation of this process is the development of key skills through the Three Phase Curriculum and through pillars that are divided into the areas of key skills, knowledge, and understandings for each subject.

Each learner at Spaghetti Bridge has an individualised and bespoke pathway through the curriculum that provides a framework for their progression towards their outcomes and aspirations.

This pathway takes into account the fact that many learners at Spaghetti Bridge have had a difficult experience of education, with many having been disengaged from education for extended periods or been unable to make progress at their previous school.

This curriculum pathway consists of rich, experiential, and practical learning experiences organised into projects aligned to their interests and passions- or that help them discover them.
Though Spaghetti Bridge learners achieve accredited learning, their curriculum is broader and richer than simply enabling the achievement of qualifications. As a result, our learners develop the ability to continue their success at the next stage of their journey.
Spaghetti Bridge learners benefit from small class size and a staff team in aligning the curriculum to the learner’s needs.
By learning through doing, young people at Spaghetti Bridge schools develop a new relationship with education and increase their confidence in their ability to learn.
The Spaghetti Bridge experiential approach to learning is based in research showing the significant benefits of a practical pedagogy.
